Harry chimes in about spring game...

A special thanks to everyone who dropped by over the weekend for our sale.

Hurricane Football was definitely in the air - you could feel it. Current and former players dropped by, the new flat screen TVs were pumping out classic game footage and everyone was either on their to or headed home from the Orange Bowl. Only four months until Florida State...

Those in store this weekend got a chance to chat with former Canes' RB James Jackson as he was in town shopping. Darryl Sharpton's familym Kirby Freeman's folks and the Morse family (not sporting a mohawk like Derrick) dropped in as well to pick up some of the newest Canes gear.

There was also a future recruit in from Georgia with his coach as they were in town to watch the scrimmage.

The spring game was similar to what we've seen in years past - the defense looks ready to roll and the offense sputtered a bit. I guess that's what happens when as an offense you face one of the nation's best defenses on a daily basis. Strength coach Andreu Swasey will get our kids stronger, faster and better. Lots of time to pull things together before the opener. As we know, the spring game always brings out basic play calling. You can't really simulate the intensity we'll see from these kids on any given Saturday.

Aside from all the spring football action, we are also gearing up for another allCanes catalog and we need to find Miss allCanes for 2006. Any of you ladies feel you have what it takes? Fellas, do you know any gals who would look great on the cover of our catalog? If so, send the photos to models@allCanes.com and we'll check out all entries.

We're aiming for another early June photoshoot - so make sure to get those entries in early if you truly want to be considered.

I got to chat with Lamar Thomas a bit at the spring game and he's already thrown his name in the hat for the catalog. I had to explain to him that we needed a Miss allCanes for the cover, but that we'd be thrilled to feature him inside the catalog.

Get those entries in and get ready for another great allCanes catalog.

Flat Screen Nation

The new flat screen TVs are up in allCanes and will be good to go for this weekend's in store sale.

They've been strategically placed. A 42" on the back wall where we used to have the big TV and then two 32" flat screens in the front of the store.

Check them out this weekend when you're in store for the big sale.

DVD games like the 2002 Rose Bowl - or classic highlight DVDs we have from the 2002, 2003 and 2004 seasons - as well as the National Champs Box Set (1983, 1987,1989, 1991 and 2001) all look stellar on there as well.

See you Saturday for the spring game and the sale!

Harry's Corner

Greetings Cane Fans. Harry here, dropping by the blog to bring everyone up to speed on what's going on at allCanes this week.

Just got back from a quick shopping spree with our retail manager Josh Peskin. It was like Christmas Day for allCanes as we just invested in three new top of the line flat screen televisions for in store. Out with the old and in with the new. We picked up a 42" for the back wall and two 32" for the side walls.

Since we've garnered a reputation for being THE place that always has classic Hurricane Football games on a constant loop - it was time to step up and do so in style.

Aside from that we're very excited around here regarding the spring football game this Saturday. The team is looking focused and everyone is excited about what this team can do if things start coming together. I ran into a few players at Mark Light last weekend for the North Carolina baseball game. Kirby Freeman and I chatted a while and he was in really good spirits - optimistic about what the offense can do this year. Kareem Brown dropped by the store the other day and he too was fired up about the defensive side of the ball and what those guys are going to do to opponents.

Regarding our in store sale this week and weekend -- a handful of items are 10% to 40% off and will remain so through the end of Saturday.

We also have a downloadable 25% off coupon which can only be used this Saturday on non sale items. Make sure to print it out and bring in store for your discount. If using online, make sure to type the six digit access code into the comments box.

Looking forward to seeing all our loyal customers in store and at the Orange Bowl this weekend. We're one step closer to that time of year we all live for -- the kickoff of college football.

145 days until the season opener against Florida State. It'll be here before we know it!!!

Go Canes!!!

Sir Lance-a-lot-to-prove after '05... & doing so

Miami Football got after it again this past Saturday (April 8th.) Injuries were still prevalent, but at The U that only means the next guy in line has to step up and make plays.

Thankfully this time around 'that guy' was Lance Leggett.

Leggett was all world as a frosh in 2004 but then fell off the map last season - progressively getting worse every pass which was thrown his way. Not only was last year's Peach Bowl a blow to the Canes collective ego, it was also Leggett's worst performance at The U.

We all know that the true measure of a man is how he handles adversity. Anyone can look the part when they are at the top of their game - but how do the handle the criticism when the wheels look to be falling off?

If you're #9 you flat out rededicate yourself to getting better. Since the Peach Bowl debacle, Leggett has lived in the weight room, the practice field as well as the track.

In March he won the 110-meter high hurdles and qualified for NCAA Regionals. He was named ACC Performer of the Week as his time of 13.89 broke the meet record and was the fastest time record in the ACC this season.

Weight room regimen and work with strength and conditioning coach Andreu Swasey have helped Leggett pack on 16 pounds of man-weight this off season and he's received praise from Coach Coker - as well as QB Kyle Wright - for the amount of time he's putting in catching balls and getting better hands.

The hard work is proving to pay off dividends. With Ryan Moore and Darnell Jenkins sidelined for the scrimmage - it was on Wright and Leggett to work their magic against the first team defense. Both delivered.

Leggett scored three touchdowns in the scrimmage - two on the deep ball, which is something drastically missing from Miami's offense in 2005. The other score was on an inside slant - a play which the Canes haven't run often since Frank Costa was throwing it to Jammi German back in 1994. Credit new offensive coordinator Rich Olson for bringing some of the imagination back regarding the aerial assault - especially with the short game.

Wright stated that Leggett has been 'flying by guys' this spring, just leaving defensive backs in the dust. He's also been more physical getting off the line.

At day's end, it's only spring practice - and one scrimmage at that. Still, to see Leggett responding the way he has - that is big time. Recent off seasons have been filled with sound bites and some hot air about players being 'hungry' and ready to get after it in fall. In this case, Leggett has flown under the radar and just done his own thing. He's choosing to speak with his actions - which is what it'll take to eventually dominate the position and eventually lead. He is winning back the respect of his teammates (some of which questioned his work ethic after the Peach Bowl) one catch at a time.

Hopefully Moore will follow Leggett's lead when he returns to the field. Between those two and Jenkins - this trio can definitely make the media eat its words regarding premature talk about the demise of wide receivers at The U.

Saturday Scrimmage Notes

A special thanks to all of those who dropped by allCanes this weekend after the Miami Football scrimmage. We hope you took advantage of the items we have on sale - marked down 10%-40% to commemorate the kickoff of spring football.

The sale will take place through April 15th and there will be a special downloadable coupon in this week's email blast worth checking out. Sign up for our UWIN contest and we'll make sure to add you to the list. Expect the blast to go out either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.

For those of you who didn't make it to The U or allCanes this weekend, the spring scrimmage was more of the same. Defense domintated (as always) while the offense is still experiencing mild growing pains. Not really fair to expect too much out of the offense right now, though. Ryan Moore sat out practice and #2 receiver Darnell Jenkins was used sparingly. Even in limited action, Jenkins did catch a 13-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Wright.

TE Greg Olson also hauled in a a touchdown as Wright found him across the middle in the endzone during a redzone offense drill and WR Khalil Jones impressed with his 45-yard reception early in the scrimmage.

The offensive line showed some promise - with Reggie Youngblood and Anthony Wollschlager being the two standouts. Many are also praising AJ Trump and predicting big things in the future.

As for Wright, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on the day. Nothing spectacular, but still better than Kirby Freeman's performance.

Tyrone Moss is still out and recovering from knee surgery - leaving Andrew Johnson, Derron Thomas and Charlie Jones to split carries. Thomas was the most impressive of the bunch, tearing off a 30-yard touchdown up the middle - while Johnson and Jones were consistent with short yard gains.

The defense was short-handed as well with Brandon Meriweather missing spring ball due to minor shoulder surgery.

Willie Williams' bid to take over as starting weakside linebacker remains on hold as he's battling the flu and was sent home Saturday. Combine that with Jon Beason's standout performance as starting WLB and #17 has his work cut out for him as spring ball continues.

Also making a name for himself at linebacker was Daryl Sharpton, who's looking to lockdown the middle linebacker position. MLB has been a sore spot for the Canes since the departure of Jon Vilma after the 2003 season.

Miami flat out needs production out of MLB and Sharpton might be that special player the Canes are looking for. He spent the better part of the day in the offense's backfield wrapping up running backs for losses. Glenn Cook is penciled in as the starter, but don't be surprised if Sharpton owns that role come fall.

Spencer Adkins and James Bryant both showed a ton of potential and knack for making the big play - but both their physical abilties are ahead of their mental grasp of the position.

Carlos Armour was a surprise standout on Saturday with two interceptions on the day - one from each quarterback. Lovon Ponder also had an interception on the day, picking off an early Wright pass.

The Canes will be back at it this week. Tune in for more - and make to take part in allCanes' special Spring Football deals.

Go Canes!!
