Oh, what the OB could be...

What could and should be versus what probably will be. Saw these pics months back and had them forwarded to me over the weekend. Artist renditions of what COULD be done to the Orange Bowl IF the City of Miami held up their end of the bargain, IF our administration chose to head down that path and IF things fell apart regarding talks with H. Wayne.

The Canes move north to Dolphin Stadium seems fait accompli, but I'm still holding out hope that something can be saved. There are rumors that some Board of Trustees members aren't 100% sold on the move, will miss the tradition, prefer the Canes stay put, will only sign off IF the deal to move north is damn near perfect.

Donna Shalala has backed some of that talk up, but again, we know business is business and if there's a way to generate a few million per year in revenue for Miami's athletic department, tradition can't hang with dollar signs.

Again, I'll go on record saying that leaving the Orange Bowl would be an absolute blow to the program. All the money in the world won't give the Canes they home field advantage they receive on Saturdays at the OB. There's nothing in the world like it, when the Canes are clicking on all cylinders.

This is Canes305 officially putting a hex on Miami moving north. Down with Dolphin Stadium. Long live the Orange Bowl. B.O.T. members, think with your heads AND your hearts when making this decision.

There are some things money can't buy and years of tradition are one of them. Don't rip the soul out of this program for the sake of concessions revenue and a Jumbotron. That's pathetic.

I totally agree i would prefer to stare at the gorgeous miami skyline at night with the palm trees swaying in the breeze, rather than the giant HD big screens at Dolphin Stadium. Every great college team has its headquarters, and OB is the eye of the storm for the "U".

The pictures and drawings look good
but alot of the blame for this situation we are in is that about 30,000 fans can be counted on to show up , thick or thin. We have all heard the excuses. If the OB had been filled or close most of the time this situation possibly could have been avoided. The city may have taken the situation a little more seriuosly.

I am not pointing fingers but it is kind of frustrating to be a UM fan and have the support they have.

I think alot of the season ticket holders will wait to see their new seat locations at JRS/PP stadium/ Don Shula stadium / or whatever it's called this week.

No doubt. Haven't they tried to get some corporate sponsorship/naming rights or anything?

Forget it. The banana republicans won't do anything to rebuild the OB. They all consider themselves temporary residents of Miami anyway. It sure looks nice in print, but it ain't happening.

I am putting the hex right back on Canes305 for even daring to call itself a Hurricane fan.
The city HAD time; more than enough.
The citizens voted a bond issue to renovate the stadium and the money disappeared into that Banana Republic.
Orange Bowl? Hah! Bad location, no parking, not enough people coming to the games there, AND, when it was first built it was as soulless as any other new structure.
Tradition takes time to build, and instead of avoiding the stadium with recruits, UM now has something to show off.
This is a PRIVATE school which receives no state funding; yes, money is important, and suggesting that the UM should ignore revenue is ludicrous.
