Thanks, U Family...

To my Canes brethren who dropped a line today, thanks. Still hanging tough. No idea what kind of coverage this is getting back east, but I can't imagine it's too much as I'm still getting stupid joke emails from long-time pals all day who obviously have no clue I've been displaced. A few old school buds did shoot me a text and that was appreciated.

Holed up in Dana Point at a hotel riding out the disaster. Part of being married as I trekked north with the wife and in laws while my folks, brother, etc. are holed up at a friend's place on the coast.

My brother attempted to negotiate the terrain a bit to check out the homes, but was turned around halfway there. Seems no matter if you're in Dana Point or coastal San Diego, attempting to get a little bit inland is simply brutal.

Got some updates from neighbors and it's hit or miss. For now, my neighborhood is out of the woods. That said, they say you can see the flames miles away and there's a lot of dry brush between there and where our place. With Santa Ana winds in full force again tomorrow and the next few days, this is far from over. The evacuation was lifted in my 'hood but everyone was basically told to sleep with one eye open and ready to go again, hence my staying 40 miles north.

My folks and brother/sister in law (Escondido) and my in laws (Rancho Santa Fe) are still in danger regarding their homes. I'm glued to the news and have been online all night checking local media sites, blogs, etc. and it's nervewracking as things change on a dime. At least when it was hurricane season, I knew I could grab a few hours of shut eye when the storm was on the move. With this firestorm, leave for dinner, come back and it's a brand new day. Friggin scary.

Beyond surreal, my friends. I've done hurricanes. Now it's full on firestorms. I feel like I've lived through two Biblical plagues and this is hell. San Diego is going up in flames. I'm stunned with every news clip that flashes on the screen.

Weather-wise, we're f'ed again for Tuesday. 8% humidity and 44 mph gusts and climbing. Santa Ana winds remain in full force. Started Sunday and will roll through Wednesday night. Great timing, nature.

Obviously I didn't get to my post Canes/Noles blog. I apologize. I've had nothing but time, but I couldn't get my head straight. I'm in 'natural disaster mode' right now - reading, watching, praying, questioning, hoping.

Keep the thoughts and prayers coming. They're beyond appreciated.

Hang tight, man.

I couldn't help but think the same thing ...

First hurricanes. And more hurricanes. Now fires. And more fires.

Unfreaking real.

Stay strong, mang. We all will get through this. Somehow.

Please don't feel like you have to apologize for missing a blog (especially in this situation). Take care of family first and then if you have the time, we can talk about Canes football. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Southern Cali.

Hi, allCanes. This is my first time commenting here.

Thank you for bringing to light what is happening in San Diego.

My family lives in Encinitas. I spoke with my mom last night and she's very worried. She says the fire is ranging in Rancho Santa Fe, and they've evacuated Village Park. She's hearing reports the fire won't stop until it reaches the Pacific Ocean.

My mom also says that although the Santa Ana winds are blowing (which usually makes the temperature along the coast very hot) the temperature is reaming cool because the heat from the east can't make it through the dense smoke.

God bless all the people in North County.

Wow 305 hope and pray everything works out for you. My wifes uncle lives in I beileve Rosemont. He has missed most of the extreme stuff but from what I understand it has come pretty close to where he is. I have been following this very closely. The only news about it out here in the east is on National Nightly News or CNN. I think just now is when it is really coming to light.
Stay safe Bro I will be praying for you.

Chris, please. Don't apologize to us about a game blog when you have your life on hold with fire all around you. I know we're all glad to hear you and your family got out fine and we'll continue to pray for your homes. For those who continue to harrass you about whatever, just chalk it up to ignorance on their part. Most of us East of you are indeed keeping up on what's going on in California with the fires so just know that we all care and hope for the best.

i just looked at the most recent numbers as to how much has burned and it said on cnn.com that 425 sq miles has burned thus far. i was trying to put that into a visual i can understand so i converted it into sq feet and i still cant grasp it. if i were to stand up the square area my feet make up and the distance between them would make up about a sq ft...so far 11,848,320,000 of those squares have burned....BILLION! i cannot imagine what California is going through. please keep us updated.

Chris,,, all the thoughts and prayers that we can muster from Tampa are heading to you and your family. I think, given the choice between the two, that I would much rather hunker down during a hurricane than deal with the inferno that is consuming So. Cal. right now.

I have a close friend in Carlsbad whom I have kept in constant touch with. She texted me late last night that they had called off the evacuation near her house (she is minutes from the ocean). She described the ashes falling and the terrible smokey conditions. She is safe for now, as you also seem to be.

Hopefully you will be able to keep us posted on your condition. Please know that you are in the hearts and minds of all of us, good luck and stay safe.

Last thing we care about is a Miami/FSU review. We all would like you and your family to stay safe, and hope that your home and all of your belongings are fine. Good Luck! Our hearts are with you.
