Things finally winding down...

This should be my last fire-related blog as things have finally wound down around my neck of the woods. Tuesday proved to be the worst of it, but it looks like the worst is behind us regarding my family.

Got back to my neighborhood yesterday afternoon when the evacuation was temporarily lifted. Got a chance to head in, pack up a few belongings and get ready for Evacuation: Round II should it happen. There were fires a good 10 miles away in a desolate area, so we were still fearing the worst.

Our issues here didn't compare in the least to my folks and brother/sister in law. They're all out in the Escondido and Lake Hodges area and things got nasty there on Tuesday. My brother had several neighbors lose their homes and my folks had the hillside behind their home go up in flames before firefighters put it out. The pic above was taken down the road from my brother's place off Del Dios Highway.

The fires in Rancho Santa Fe on Monday had personnel in the area that when things shook down Tuesday out at Lake Hodges, they were ready. Over 200 firefighters on hand and multiple helicopters dipping into the lake and showering the area all day.

Beyond surreal. Still can't fathom what happened and what's happening in others parts of Diego right now. Praying for the best and hoping this all comes to an end soon.

Thank you again to everyone who commented, checked in and gave a damn about us on the west coast out here. Your thoughts and prayers were not only appreciated, but based on the small miracles which occurred with my immediate family yesterday, I believe it all helped tremendously.

Hey 305, I haven't been near a computer for a few days, but I do wish all the best for you and your family and pray that your home and belongings are not damaged in any way. I work at the Transportation Security Operations Center in DC, so we are keeping an eye on those fires around the clock. I'll keep you in my prayers and if I have any information that may help you out I'll let you know!!!

Good to hear your back home. We wouldn't want the Canes stuff to get ruined. Hopefully evacuation Round 2 don't happen to you and your fam. Stay safe and hope you and the family get things back to normal soon.

Chris, Glad to hear you are fine so far, as well as your house. We'll continue to pray for everyone in the fire areas. Let's hope that the government gives all the aid you guys need, and that the insurance companies actually do their job for once and pay up.

Chris,

Good hearing that your house, and equally important, Canes memorabilia were spared thus far. Lord knows though, that possessions, however meaningful they may seem, are not nearly important as our lives or safety. Even though it is easy to lose sight of, the fact that all of you are safe is what matters most.

My friend in Carlsbad has endured as well, although she did text me late Wednesday night that her hamster, Roxy, had gone to meet her maker. She didn’t reply to my response, “I blame deteriorating air quality.” Go figure.

I am taking my 13 year-old daughter down to the “Mother Ship” next Saturday so that she can become a part of the Orange Bowl “experience.” She is totally and genuinely “geeked out” about it. I can’t wait to see her reactions to what awaits her. It’s still hard to accept that there are only two games remaining there.

Again, continued thoughts and concerns for all that you love thereabouts. I hope that all escape with as little harm as possible.

It's ashame that during Katrina the country was open hearted with collections of money/etc and the media and politicians played it big. This disaster Cali is on it's own as the West usually is. I guess this natural disaster in this part of the country is not as useable for politicl gain. We go out west alot and I feel your pain.

Pretty pathetic that you'd take the time to log on, leave a comment and this is what you have to say.

"The power of prayer should not be underestimated." - James 5:16-18

Believe what you want. I believe what I want. I choose to believe we were spared. I also choose to believe that IF we had lost our homes, there'd have been a reason and we'd have come out better as a result.

15 years ago we prayed we wouldn't lose our home in Andrew. We did. As a result, new doors opened and we wound up in So Cal with a better life than any of us ever imagined.

Praying isn't like rubbing a bottle and a genie granting wishes. Sometimes you'll be spared and other times it's out of your hands and part of a bigger, more devine plan.

Either way, you're a rather bitter and cynical person to come around here and chime in with such stupidity in times like these. Seriously, THIS is what you feel the need to chime in about and the leave "Anonymous" like a friggin coward? Scram.

Gee, you didn't tip your hand there did you, Gator puke?

Friggin loser.

Chris, Since that Gator scrub decided to be dumb *** you should do a blog about that picture form last year showing Urban Myth looking in the rear view and Shannon and Bowden. Guess what? The Gator Bait lost game #3 today. One good year does not a power house make Florida. You have 3 titles to go to match us.
