Beyond disgusted...
Saturday night's Orange Bowl finale was part funeral, part abortion. I've never been so embarrassed watching a Canes game in my life. Canes305 flew in from San Diego for this one - to pay respect to the stadium that provided me a million and one memories growing up in Miami. I even gave up Chargers/Colts tickets to head back to the 305... something which really sucks laying here hungover in my Mayfair bed and 3,000 miles away from Qualcomm Stadium and my west coast buds. Thanks a whole hell-of-a-lot, 2007 Canes. I put more effort into my travel plans than you or the coaches did on the field last night.
I entered nostalgic, with a slew of emotions overcoming me and I left cursing everything about the current state of the program. The Orange Bowl deserved better. Sadly the only people who realized that were the 62K+ in attendance.
I hope the future recruits were watching this one - partly to see what not to do with their game once reaching the collegiate level as well as to solidify the fact that ALL positions are opening entering next season and that many kids on this team lack heart and will be beat out by true freshman next year. Bank on that. The dead weight is headed to the bench.
I have one last day in South Florida before trekking back to Cali in the AM. That said, I'm not going to waste it writing about a team which showed zero heart, passion or emotion last night. Screw that. If they don't care, then for today - neither do I. I'm off to enjoy my old hometown. My trashing of this team, heartless players and confused coaches can wait until I return to SD.
I'm disgusted, as are all Miami fans today. Sadly, at 5-4 I could live with losing last night. Go down with a fight and keep building for next year. But 48-0? The worst home shutout in history? The worst home loss since the 1940s? That' unforgivable. Some scholarships should be burned after what was witnessed last night and I can think of at least one coordinator who should pack his bags before 2008. Actually, he can do so just after Thanksgiving weekend since this team won't sniff a bowl game this year.
We'll break it all down later this week and on a positive note, will post photos from from the allCanes 'Farewell to the OB' bash at the Mayfair on Friday night. If the team had the heart of the Canes fans in attendance, the score would've been 48-0 in the other direction.
More later this week. Hang in there Miami faithful. I'm headed out for a cocktail and to drown my sorrows like a drunk uncle at an Irish wake.

Absolutly disgraceful what happened last night. Best way to fix it, take away every Scholership exept Calais, Kenny P, baby J, and Graig and get every Senior from Northwestern, Booker T. and St. Thomas. Those guys know how to win.
Every player should be ashamed to put on the Miami jersey. The last game ever and they come out and play like that. I am getting more and more tired of these bad losses which seem to be more frequent these last few years. This is a wide open year for any team who wants to take it, and we aren't even getting a whiff of rankings. You know it's bad when other teams' fans don't even rag on you anymore. I do know that the defense has definately taken a big step back this year. How can ANY Virginia team EVER score 48 points against us? I could go on for days, but what's the point? I now look forward to the offseason to any changes Randy may make and then I'll be keeping track of our recruiting news up to February. Time to turn the page on yet another year that could have been.

Beyond rough. Gators and 'Canes don't like each other at all, but that exceeded my capacity for cruel and unusual punishment.
The OB has been called a dump, but I love the game of college football and some of the game's greatest moments occurred in that stadium.
Didn't take any pleasure in that travesty at all. It's unfathomable really.
Virginia?
Have heard through the grapevine that a LOT of these kids are headed OUT THE DOOR based on their (non)performance this season. It's also reported in some circles that there is a serious division on this team(?) between guys who have bought into Randy's Way and those that want to do it Coker's Way. Good riddance to the latter!
An ABORTION...that's exactly the term for it. You would think these kids would at least SHOW UP for the Ole Lady's grand exit, but I guess this younger generation just doesn't GET IT.
Very, very sad evening, indeed. Just AWFUL! We should never call this 2007 squad Canes. They should never be allowed to stand on the sidelines with our former greats. Hope those guys will escort them out of DS if they have the NERVE to show up there.
Nix and Walton MUST GO!
Brutal brutal... I was so sick wathing the first quarter I almost turn it off. I hope the players who believe in Shannon will kick the non-belivers a@@ out the door. I didnt see a spark of emotion for the OB and I think with the exception of a handful of players the team as a whole simply doesnt care...
As for the division of coker ways and Shannons ways I think it's very visible that the ones who beilive in Coker are the lazy one's lacking the heart to be a Cane. You can watch them on the field and pick out who's who....
I cant belive I'm saying this but I cant wait for the next 2 weeks to be over so we can look toward the future. The current team cannot and doesnt deserve to play in a bowl game not even on the smurf turf...

it was to sad to see this game happen the way it happened. there was a feeling that the coaches didnt even care about the game there was no emotion and they didnt want to open the play book to at least get something going. pat nix is disgraceful thats not a way to call plays that was the worst play calling ever what a way to say bye to the OB
I refuse to put blame on the Coach and Coordinators. There is nothing anyone can do with this group of anemic players. They never showed any heart and just don't have the qualities (physical and mindset) required to be a Cane athlete. I look at the guys on the field and I don't see NFL ready players. We dominated for decades because we had the fastest, strongest, biggest, more physical athletes (can't say smartest as we had inordinate amount of penalties and would put ourselves in situations we didn't need to be in only to be bailed out by exceptional athletic plays on defense or offense). Until I see the same type of players we aren't going anywhere. Even during the probation years we had exceptional athletes.
How do you blame coaches when receivers drop balls or cause INTs, an underachieving QB poorly executes simple plays, the backup QB is a fragile and mentally weak incompetent, our tiny defense is put in impossible situations to defend the endzone?
Again, it's a miracle that we even have 5 wins this year!! Here is a good question for you guys: Could we beat ND? Dont be so quick to answer...We barely beat Duke and lost to NC, NCSt, GT. We are going to end up with a respectable record at least for the type of players we have.
I may have had some overhyped aspirations this year, but in retrospective what was accomplished this year is neither great nor bad. This was the team we had and that's that. Coach Coker would have had a more miserable record than what we have and AGAIN PEOPLE THERE WERE NO COACHES LINING UP TO TAKE THIS JOB. Let's give this coaching staff some real time to convert this program. Let's see how the incoming frosh do. Let's see how returning players progress.
The lack of heart this weekend is a culmination of emotions that have developed over the course of the college careers of these players. Stuck in Loser Mode.
CANES 4 LIFE
Sorry a**proformance of the team effort, no spark at all and da chance to play in the OB...come on. For someone who grow up in L.A. fell in love with da CANES, takes his only baby, confinces her to go to school there, be a cheerleader and have her throw up the U; make me sick. These kids maybe be kids but thinking someone is going pro cuz he from the U...please is not going to happen.
Last night, ESPN was interviewing Benny Blades on the sidelines during the game and the reporter asked him, "what was wrong with the Canes", and he stated, "that he and the other (past)Canes on the sidelines, were discussing it and he really did not know (and you can tell by his facial expression that he was shocked on what he saw on the field). He stated that the kids looked confused and didn't know where they should be on the field. You know....HE WAS RIGHT. I've never seen anything like it. This wasn't a regular lost, this was a lost where almost someone should lose their job OR lose a scholarship. A week or so ago we were all screaming that this game should be the ESPN Gameday Game of the week. I'm glad it wasn't, I wish this wasn't even shown on TV. I feel bad for those in attendance, that had to watch it first hand. It would be easy to list the things I saw that were wrong but I don't know if they would let me list all of it on this blog. Then think we have to play Virgina Tech....OH the agony! I pray we get some fresh new talent of guys who want to win and want to play EVERY game because we sure do need it at the U! Last night was disgusting and embarrasing.......2008, 2008, 2008.
Big A from the 321 to the 305!!!
I am 33 and hate to admit this but I was fighting back the tears as I left the old lady last night. I was choked up with emotion about losing our stadium and the fact that this team is as bad as I feared before the season it would be but hoped I was dead wrong. Actually while our record is about where I thought it would be, our team is much worse, because I didn't expect the lifeless lethargic performances against FIU and Duke.
Paul Dee liked that clam/ibis symbol so much, he should ask Shannon to put that on the helmet until further notice. This group doesn't deserve to wear the "U" on their helmet.
For those of you seeking kids who play hard and with pride check out a UM Basketball game this season. Coach Haith's team isn't the most talented but they will never quit on the fans and the community the way the football team did last night. They'll fight until the horn blows and they'll hopefully avenge some of our football losses to basketball schools this year.
305, I agree with you 100%. I have never been more embarrased to call myself a Hurricane fan. It's always great to be stuck in a Hurricanes jersey at work after a 48-0 beating. Hey anybody want a ticket to the VT game?? I'll pay you to take it!!
I don't care how bad the players are, there should be more fight than that. Sure, UM may not have championship caliber talent but no talent at all? That much less than Wyoming, Duke, Middle Tennessee State, etc? All teams that either beat or lost to Va in close games.
How do the coaches lose control of a team like that? Have they all just quit on Shannon and Co? Do they not even have any personal pride???
The coaches are a disgrace in my opinion. There are so many problems with this program, I really hope they can recover.
Not sure I can describe the disgust I feel towards any player or players on this team who would undermine the great tradition of this football program and their fans and give us that vomitorium-like glimpse of thier complete lack of heart.
How could any MAN, do that? I just do not get it.
The only thing I can think of is that the defense quit, because the offense quit, because Bozo The Freakin Clown is their coordinator.
It appears time to tear this thing completely apart and start anew with only those who believe in restoring the pride that this program made it bones on.
I hear that the final two games are going to be pay-for-view only. You have to send them your account information and they will deposit a check directly into your bank.

Just got back home to the ATL. Damn Chris, we did put more effort into travel arrangements than this team did on the field. What a gutless performance. Lots of orange showed up at the ole lady Sat. night.....too bad the ole 'Canes moxie didn't. Absolutely frickin sad !!!
big pimpin
What a joke!! I am so upset with this team, absolute Disgrace!!
I too am discrased by the loss. What a painful game to remember as the OB's last. However at the end of the day I put my Hurricanes Cap on and proudly say I AM A HURRICANE! yes we are bad right now but I still wear my U with honor! I beleive randy will right the ship. If it hurts us this bad how do you think He feels. If they dont have heart shannon will replace them with guys that do. If they dont give 110% Randy will replace them with guys that do. no one bleeds Orange and Green more than Shannon. I came to work today at FSU with my Canes Cap on and head held high and took the shots but it is still "GREAT TO BE A MIAMI HURICANE!"
I too traveled from San Diego to Miami for the last OB game, and felt equally the same after seeing that horrible game.
Made me wish I had gone to the Chargers game instead...
I am looking for a game program from the last game in the OB (not to remember the pathetic game, but to remember the OB from years past). If anyone knows where to get one, please forward the information to: trysonavi@gmail.com. Thanks.
