Kayvon Webster to The U...

Not much good can come out of a 28-24 weekend loss to a conference rival, where breakdowns in the secondary allowed a third-string quarterback to find open receivers for late scores.

One bright spot is the recruiting trail and the fact that ballers nationwide are watching the Miami Hurricanes, see some glaring weaknesses and know that freshman will be relied on to get the program back where it belongs.

Kayvon Webster knows his hometown Canes are in need of some immediate help, which prompted a Monday night phone call to Aubrey Hill and the announcement that Webster is headed to The U.

The three-star safety from Monsignor Pace High watched the Canes fall to the Tar Heels and said that the defensive back struggles helped him come to his decision.

Webster is a 5-f00t-11, 181 pound, three-star prospect who runs a 4.4-forty. He chose Miami over Ole Miss, South Carolina, Sourth Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida and LSU. He said his commitment is almost 100% solid and has mom in his corner, as Mrs. Webster wants her boy to stay home for college.

Webster joins Jamal Reid (DB/ATH), Prince Kent (WR/DB) and Brandon McGee (DB) as the four Miami commit that should immediately boost the 2009 secondary.

Last February Miami coaches stockpiled at linebacker and wide receiver, which were two glaring weaknesses for the Canes. For next year's class, the secondary, offensive and defensive lines are all areas Randy Shannon and staff plan to reboost.

Welcome to The U, Kayvon.

Thearon Collier -- 3 stars
Micanor Regis -- 3 stars
Graig Cooper -- 3 stars initially (2006)
Kevin Everett -- 3 stars
Brandon Merriweather -- 3 stars
Sinorice Moss -- 3 stars
Clinton Portis was a mid-range prospect for DB; Sean Taylor was a 3-star I think? Ed Reed was a 2-star.

Some of the 5 star busts:
Ryan Moore
Kyle Wright
Lance Legget
Tyler McMeans
Willie Williams

And that's only at the U. Mike Williams was a 3-star if I remember correctly.

Thanks for 'going there' txcane. You beat me to the punch.

Stars mean nothing. Some of Miami best players have been under the radar kids. Like you said, Reed was a two-star from LA that wanted to go to his dream school (Florida State) but didn't have an offer. I came down to Miami or Tulane.

That "five-star or bust" mentality is moronic. It's all about the right players from the right schools with the right attitude and right work ethic.

Anonymous (seriously, bro... leave your name) - How about we don't focus on how many stars a kid has and simply focus on what he brings to the program, as well as his intangibles?

All this Rivals and Scout crap is as big a joke as a Mel Kiper Jr., "predicting" how good someone will be at the next level.

The Internet... message boards... chat rooms... recuiting sites... it's all out of control.

The coaches are still figuring out what they're doing on the field, but when it comes to recruiting Randy and staff are doing a hell of job addressing the needs and bringing "Miami-type" kids back to the program.

All 3 star player who come to the "U" will be an 8 star player by their Junior year. Or so legend has it.

Please,,,, SHUT UP. Great job txcane,,,, saved more than one of us the effort of body slamming that particular "slant".

Boom,, out of here, lmao.

Seriously bro,,,, just leave.

These are exactly the players we want. They can see the core that is there already and they can see their place in that core of the future.

One last thought on the Nix rants that have been raining down. Nix gave his team the lead, Nix was not responsible for the points that were scored against us,,, Nix gave us more than enough points to have won the NC game.

Easier to focus on him???, maybe. The offense was a "splash" catch from winning this game.

The defense,,, should shoulder the equal share of the blame, OR WORSE, than that which has been attached to Nix and his offense lately. They are the ones who gave the lead up in the first place,,,, not Nix's schemes or play calling.

That side of the ball is where the youth shows the most, to me. Are they gonna be good,,, yes sir,,, they are gonna be good. But right now,,,, they occasionally make it seem like its boys against men.

Good stufff. Keep rollin' 'em in.

I think this coaching staff went back to recruiting actual football players than recruiting someone has the stars.

The kids we have now, they just look like they are players. We've been missing that, I think Jenkins was the only one that looked like he could play

you've got to trust the coaching staff in what they're doing. they brought in an outstanding class from top to bottom. and they're gonna do it again in with the class of 09. they know what kind of players they're recruiting and who gives a crap about stars. A lot of these kids from South Florida go up against tougher competition in practice than other kids do all season. so forget the stars and trust in RS. he's gonna bring talent down south, regardless of what rivals thinks.

This is a little bit off subject but I just read an article about Randy Shannons reasoning for playing Jacory Harris and I'm a little disgusted that Coach Shannon is being run by fear of a player transferring!! Let him go if he doesn't want to be here!!
