Welcome "back", Miami

After a two-year absence, The U is back in a big way. It's a far cry from No. 1, but the journey to the top needs to start somewhere. For the Miami Hurricanes, it's at No. 23.

The last time The U was ranked - September 10th, 2006. After a 31-7 beatdown at Louisville a week later, Miami's streak of 107 consecutive appearances in the rankings came to a crashing halt. Since then, a 18-14 run that was 13-14 before a recent turnaround and five-game win streak.

With a North Carolina loss at Maryland this past weekend, Miami not controls it's destiny in the ACC Coastal Division.

Should the Canes beat Georgia Tech this Thursday, an ACC title game berth will be secure as long as either North Carolina loses to NC State - or - Virginia Tech and Virginia win. Tampa is within reach IF Miami can stay focused and a few other things fall into place.

Two more games. Hang on and enjoy this climb back to the top.

Hell yeah. Don't forget to mention that the U would definitely be Tampa bound if we win against GT and NC State, which would be my preferred way of getting in.

It was only a matter of time. Us Miami folk knew that the Senior class of Miami-Northwestern would not disappointment.

If somehow this class can stay together for four years, three national titles area strong possibility. I'll settle for an Orange Bowl crown on New Year's Day this time around. At least things will be back to the way they should be!

hey allcanes, i think you should put up some fresh pics in the banner for your blog. There is a photo from the vtech game where marcus forston is standing over the top of a prone tyrod taylor. I'd say that's a pretty badass throwback shot right there. Throw'em down and stand over them just so they know who's boss. I think that photo should find its way into the banner. And that one photo represents what the dline did all night.

The photo in the Miami Herald of Marve jumping over a fallen coach Beamer is incredible

Jeffery - A pic like that of Forston will wind up in the banner in time. For now, that space is reserved for old school Canes and guys who have gone on to the next level. Current Canes are featured in the article stories, but the banner is there to show Miami Hurricanes' football past legacy - not the present.

I think the ranking was a week overdue when I saw Wake Forest ranked even though they had the same record, and we beat them head to head. But we're there now and that's what matters. Somehow we now control our own destiny once again (thanks Terps) and only have The Yellow Jackets and Wolfpack between us and Tampa. Two typical Jeckyll and Hyde ACC teams. They could play well and beat us or play turnover ball and hand the game to us. We have to play focused, assignment football. With Tech, you obvioulsy have to stop the run. I think our run D has improved, as last week showed. This is the game that some national guys have us losing. Based on what? We can handle these guys, despite their 3 game streak against us. It comes back to being the bully and not getting outworked like last year once again. This team believes and works. Our sketchy secondary will only be tested a few times Thursday, so this shoud play into our strength. I look forward to seeing what Chris has to say about the game. Be The Bully!
